Michael K. Huff is employed with PinnacleHealth System as the Vice President of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Services. Within this leadership position, Michael oversees practice management; inpatient and outpatient clinical operations; and marketing and business development for Invasive Cardiology; Interventional Radiology; Hybrid; Heart Failure Center; Cardiovascular Outreach; Cardiovascular Diagnostics; and Quality Assurance while reporting to the Senior Vice President and Chief Operating Officer.
Michael is also the President of the PinnacleHealth Cardiovascular Heart and Vascular Institute, commonly known as PHCVI. This position reports to a 19-member Board that is comprised of equal numbers of physicians and hospital executives. Michael is responsible for an operating budget of more than $80 million and revenues in excess of $315 million. He provides leadership and direction for over 21 offices and individual clinics that are staffed by 32 cardiologists, 2 pediatric cardiologists, 5 electrophysiologists and 6 cardiovascular surgeons. At any time, PHCVI is involved in more than 50 clinical trials for cardiac care and nearly 20 for vascular disease.
Prior to his employment with PinnacleHealth, Michael served 20+ years with the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania’s Department of Health. He was the first registered nurse to serve as Pennsylvania’s top health secretary. As the Acting Secretary of Health, Michael was responsible for carrying out the Department of Health’s mission to promote healthy lifestyles, prevent injury and disease and to assure the safe delivery of quality healthcare for all Pennsylvania citizens. Prior to being appointed to Acting Secretary, he served as the Deputy Secretary for Health Planning and Assessment and was responsible for monitoring, tracking and analyzing the health status of Pennsylvania communities. In addition, his service to the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania included: Director of the Division of Communicable Disease Prevention; Director of the Division of Chronic Disease Intervention; Acting Director of the Office of Public Health Preparedness and Director of the Bureau of Community Health Systems.
Michael has served as a commissioned officer in the United States Army Nurse Corps and is a member of the Sigma Theta Tau National Nursing Honor Society.
