Philip W. Guarneschelli currently serves as UPMC Pinnacle president and CEO. UPMC Pinnacle is a nationally recognized leader in providing high-quality, patient-centered healthcare services in central Pennsylvania and surrounding rural communities. Its more than 2,900 physicians and allied health professionals and approximately 11,000 employees serve a 10-county area at outpatient facilities and eight acute care hospitals with 1,360 licensed beds: Carlisle, Community Osteopathic, Hanover, Harrisburg, Lancaster, Lititz, Memorial, and West Shore.
In 2017, he oversaw UPMC Pinnacle’s acquisition of five hospitals, which grew the system by more than 730 beds and added almost 5,000 employees. In September 2017, UPMC Pinnacle (formerly PinnacleHealth System) affiliated with UPMC. Net operating revenue for 2017 exceeded $1 billion.
In his previous role as senior vice president and chief operating officer through March 2017, he developed leadership and direction for Ambulatory Care Services; Cardiovascular & Pulmonary Services; Facilities and Support Services; Oncology Services; Nursing Operations; Surgical Services & Transplant; Operations at West Shore Hospital; Operations at Community General Osteopathic Hospital; and departments such as Women & Children's Services, Patient Experience, Emergency Medicine Services, Behavioral Services, Operations and Pharmacy. From March 2010 through June 2011, Mr. Guarneschelli also served as acting president and CEO of PinnacleHealth System.
Phil has more than 30 years of senior leadership experience with a record of accomplishments in operations management, customer service, strategic planning, contracting, finance, physician relations, real estate and construction management. He has implemented and managed more than $500 million in modernization and consolidation projects over the past 20 years. This includes projects such as Fredricksen Outpatient Center and Medical Office Buildings, Susquehanna Valley Surgery Center, the Medical Sciences Pavilion which houses the PinnacleHealth Cancer Center, The Helen M. Simpson Rehabilitation Hospital, West Shore Hospital and Ortenzio Cancer Center at PinnacleHealth and expansion projects for Emergency Services at Harrisburg Hospital and Community General Osteopathic Hospital. He managed the design, construction and opening of Pennsylvania Psychiatric Institute (PPI) in partnership with Penn State Hershey Medical Center.
In his history with UPMC Pinnacle, he implemented and managed the merger of Capital Health System and Polyclinic Hospital, two long-standing, charitable, hospital organizations, to create PinnacleHealth and offer a wide variety of healthcare services, programs and community benefits. Phil planned and managed several physician group acquisitions.
Phil obtained his MBA from Saint Francis DeSales University. He previously attended the Indiana University of Pennsylvania and obtained a Bachelor of Science in Business Administration. His area of specialization was general business. Phil is a member of the American College of Healthcare Executives (ACHE) and achieved his Fellowship in December 2016.
Phil's involvement in the community is broad. He is past president of the local chapter of the Exchange Club and past president for the International Facilities Management Association (IFMA). Phil served on the board of directors for the Keystone Area Council Boy Scouts of America, Harrisburg Regional Chamber, Leukemia & Lymphoma Society and United Way of the Capital Region. He served as chairman of the 2009 and 2011 American Heart Walks. Phil currently serves on various committees with American Heart Association, March of Dimes and Keystone Area Council Boy Scouts of America. Phil also serves on the Advisory Board of Integrity Bank, a division of S & T Bank. Phil is a former Boy Scout and has been supportive and dedicated to the Boy Scouts of Central Pennsylvania for more than 20 years. Phil was honored by the Keystone Area Council Boy Scouts of America and awarded the 2012 Good Scout of the year. Phil was honored by the Central Pennsylvania Business Journal with the 2016 Executive Management Award in the Chief Operating Officer category.
Phil is a devoted husband and father of two daughters and a son. Phil's hobbies include coin collecting, clay shooting and fishing.
